Katie’s Story

The Bridge Counseling Program

At the start of treatment, Katie, aged 15, presented with symptoms of depression. Over time, she began experiencing manic and psychotic episodes and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Katie’s family, wanting to be a support to her and recognize early learning signs, reached out to The Bridge for support and guidance to understand and empathize with her.

Through psychoeducation and consistent family therapy with her parents, Katie learned to recognize early warning signs and develop coping strategies for both depressive and manic episodes.

With the addition of medication management and increased support from her family, she has achieved greater mood stability. Her parents have played an active role in maintaining structure and routine at home, contributing to a more stable environment.

During her most recent manic episode, Katie was able to independently identify early warning signs and proactively seek help, demonstrating significant progress in her self-awareness and management of symptoms.
