Shawn’s Story

The Bridge CCBYS Crisis Program

Shawn, is a 16-year-old who came to the Bridge through the CCBYS crisis Juvenile Justice system.

Shawn was diagnosed with conduct disorder and had a severe trauma history, feeling easily triggered and impulsive as a result. Engaging in increasingly reckless behaviors and activities, Shawn was arrested following a physical altercation.

Before Shawn’s arrest he was engaged in drug use, expulsion from school, and court involved due to a pending charge of unlawful use of a weapon. Over the course of the year, Shawn was able to understand accountability, actions and consequences, and impacts of the juvenile justice system on our youth.

Shawn discharged therapy successfully, receiving passing grades in all courses at his new school, trauma healing with his family, and working, maintaining a part-time job. Shawn also showed decreased drug use evidenced by negative drug tests administered by his probation officer.

Shawn is a remarkable example of why the work we do not only impacts the client but decreases the possibility of recidivism with our court involved youth.
